Ancient civilizations, including the Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, have used essential oils for medical purposes for centuries thanks to their different properties against bacteria, parasites and yeasts.
Nowadays essential oils are well-known for their antimicrobial activity against different pathogenic microorganisms and for many other effects: antioxidant, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory and restorative on the mucous membrane.
This essential oil exerts a mucolytic and expectorant action in the upper respiratory tract by carrying out a preventive action against respiratory diseases, if administered orally through drinking water or liquid feed.
The high volatility of this component, particularly when administered in drinking water, allows once entered in the oral cavity, to spread rapidly into the trachea and main bronchi.
It exerts an intense action even at the level of the nasal cavity, as well as making the feed more palatable and improving the air present in the shed, which tends to become saturated with essential oil surely improving the health of the animals.
